Boniface Mutyaba claims that the robbers, who were dressed in police boots, woke him up around two in the morning. They fought them and left the gun behind.
After a local bravely intervened during a robbery attempt, police in Bukomansimbi District were able to recover a missing handgun.
The incident happened in Butenga Subcounty's Kawoko Village, and the locals are asking the government for explanations.
The weapon that was found belongs to Corporal Jimmy Obia of the Kyaabi Police Post in Kawanda Subcounty. It was taken on March 29 from Sembabule District.
Unknown attackers are said to have utilized the 29-round gun during a nighttime raid on Kawoko Village.
Residents said that the thieves targeted Boniface Mutyaba's house and struck about two in the morning.
They made a bold move and opened a hole in the wall to let them in.
"I slept at 1am but at around 2am, I heard people in my bedroom, I heard someone saying “catch him”, then they flashed a torch at me," Mutyaba recounted.
He claimed he saw police boots when I looked down and attempted to escape the mosquito net.
"I fell into his hands then we started fighting and he threw me at the door, we passed in that hole they dug but I thought we had passed through the doorway," Mutyaba said.
Nevertheless Mutyaba and his family were alarmed, so they told their neighbors, who then called the police.
Residents were confused when law enforcement took the pistol without providing an explanation, even after the prompt action.
"They came at night but they just removed their gun and went away, " someone stated.
"They returned recently, at 4 p.m., after leaving previous night. They were completely meaningless to us."
The missing gun disappeared during an expedition for Officers Jimmy Obia and Chrismass Masereka, who had apparently gone to a pub, according to police investigations.
Both officers are right now kept by the Flying Squad Unit in Masaka pending encourage request.
